Abstract

In the last years, the social psychology has built theories and effective methods such as psychosocial intervention to help improve the quality of life and in construction of new subjectivities of the elderly. This article aims at analyzing an experience with a group of institutionalized elderly from the city of Linhares in the northern region of the Espírito Santo State, Brazil, with the purpose of contributing for the improvement of their quality of life. Our methodology aimed at carrying out discussion groups that allowed the active participation of the elderly. Thirteen seniors participated in this intervention. This group met seven times to discuss and think carefully about various themes. The results have demonstrated an improvement in the interpersonal relationship and the denaturalization of beliefs/myths that interfere in the quality of life of the elderly. Therefore in this psychological intervention it was possible to rethink and to create new psychological practices.
