Power Relations in a Basic Health Unit Territory

Abstract

Using the theoretical framework of Norbert Elias and considering that individuals and society are inseparable objects and active participants in transforming the health situation, it was analyze, through observation, the power relations between the Community Health Agents (CHA) and population assigned to the Health Unit territory (Health Strategy for the Family) in a municipality in the metropolitan region of Curitiba. The results were categorized in accordance to the concepts of Elias. The relational dynamics between place and social position (figuration) appeared in 17 lines: "I feel embarrassed by having to visit my neighbors." The interdependence between human beings (interdependence) explained in 13 lines: "the figure of the ACS only exists because of the existence of the user. Changes in the balance of forces (balanced tensions) were perceived in the presence of a user with a transmissible disease destabilized the territory fragile balance. As a final consideration, we emphasize that power relations permeate health practices and maintain interdependence with public policies and the Public Health System A web woven by human relations established in the surrounding area understanding of the health units (territory) it helped our understanding about the need to conduct research that will bring sociological references to the health world.
