Effects of resistance training on health indicators of breast cancer survivors

This study aimed to investigate the effects of non-linear resistance training (NLRT) on physical performance, anthropometry, hematological, biochemical and biophysicochemical aspects in breast cancer survivors (BCS). Twenty-two women with a history of mastectomy and lymphadenectomy completed 12 weeks of training. Evaluations of maximum force (MF), strength-endurance (SE), body mass index, body fat percentage (BF%), lean mass percentage (LM%), and hematological, biochemical, and erythrocyte stability parameters were performed before and after the NLRT. In all exercises, there were significant gains (p < 0.05) in MF and SE. The NLRT also promoted a reduction in BF% and an increase in LM%, a decrease in erythrocyte and platelet count, and hemoglobin levels, as well as desirable changes in the lipid profile. These findings reveal the need for constant monitoring of this population and, above all, the multidimensional impact of NLRT with benefits on various health indicators in BCS.Downloads
