Abstract

This study assessed the environmental and climatic factors in the occurrence of the Aedes aegypti, mosquito that transmits dengue, in the city of Assis Chateaubriand, PR, Brazil. The city experienced a major case of an epidemic in 2007 and a major reduction in 2008 due to the implementation of environmental education programs. This research is an observational, multiple case study, that based on data collection analyzed the environmental and climatic factors that may be related to the cases of spread of dengue. These cases can be aggravated due to the environmental pollution, caused by the garbage that is abandoned on inadequate places, contributing to the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, vector of dengue, together with the rains in the region, forming breeding grounds for the mosquito.
