Abstract

Knowledge of Pedagogy undergraduates on mouth respiration caused by nasal obstruction is investigated. Assay comprised 316 undergraduates of a government university in the northwestern region of the state of Paraná, Brazil. A questionnaire was applied with open and closed questions on allergic rhinitis, hypertrophy of the pharynx tonsils, mouth respiration and its implications in learning. Results show that students have only a scanty idea on allergic rhinitis and very little information on the hypertrophy of the pharynx tonsils and mouth respiration. Professional formation is basic for the teacher to identify and guide the student with mouth respiration to consult the doctor and thus prevent the organic abnormalities and learning difficulties caused by this type of respiration.
