Abstract

A mother’s stance with regard to her one-year-old child’s deafness is investigated and the factors that may affect such a perception are analyzed. Eleven mothers with children featuring deep bilateral neuron-sensorial deafness participated in current research. Data collection comprised interview with an overall question. Qualitative analysis was undertaken with regard to the mother’s perception on deafness. Results showed that the identification of deafness mostly occurred after the child’s first year.
