BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL HEALTH AND COVID-19: A REVIEW

Keywords: Covid-19 viral infection, Pandemic, Sport performance

Abstract

Impacts of physical activities (recreational and high performance), on physical health, feeding and mental health during the pandemic of the new coronavirus are identified. Physical activity, stimulation to healthy food and stress management may provide higher life quality to the population especially with regard to non-transmissible chronic diseases. This highly true for obesity which reduces the efficiency of immune response. Obese people and people with other NTCDs (systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia) have a low degree inflammation which is potentialized by Covid-19 through a pro-inflammatory cytokine tempest. So that one may verify whether healthy food, the practice of physical activities and sports minimize serious and critical Covid-19 cases, an integrative review was undertaken from the follow databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Sports Discuss and Scielo, by descriptors in English: “Covid-19 and Physical fitness”, “Covid-19 and athletes”, “Covid-19 and sports” and “Covid-19 and Athletic Performance”. Descriptive analysis followed data survey. Results show that more physically prepared people and people who feed themselves correctly are more likely to have fewer grave symptoms of Covid-19 coupled to better mental health.
