Abstract

This paper especially aimed at observing primary education grammar lessons to verify the way teachers conceptualize this subject. It was focused on the stressed syllable and the rules for graphic accent, taking the reflexive grammar as a reference. To that aim, four Portuguese language teachers – 2ª, 4ª, 5ª and 6ª grades – from a state school in the city of Maringá-PR were observed. The results showed that the teaching of this subject is approaches solely by the use of the course book. According to the specialized literature, this pedagigical approach does not allow for satisfactory learning. Many imes, course books present excessive fragmentation leading students to a conceptual confusion.
