Abstract

Loss of quality in water resources in city environments are more and more associated with potentially polluting activities such as car-washing and engine repairs, coupled to the inadequate use and occupation of soil in areas of permanent preservation. Current study, undertaken between October 2013 and April 2014, analyzes some chemical and biological characteristics of the stream Riachuelo within the urban range of the city of Ji-Paraná RO Brazil, associated with the emission of domestic effluents. Four variables, total coliforms, E. coli, nitrate and dissolved oxygen, were monitored during six months. Variables behaved at levels which were characteristics of water environments with great polluting cargoes derived from domestic effluents and nitrate. A range of information is required to ensure population needs so that the water basin would not continue undergoing negative interference in environmental quality.
