Abstract

Current experiment was performed at the Faculdade Integrado de Campo Mourão, Campo Mourão PR Brazil, and seeding undertaken in the 2011-2012 harvest. The agronomic characteristics of five corn genotypes cultivated in the region of Campo Mourão for the production of baby corn were evaluated. Experimental design comprised randomized blocks with five treatments and four replications. Simple Hybrid Corn ATL 200; Bona-Verde Sweet Corn; While Corn Canjica; Hybrid Popcorn Itapuã 900; Super-Sweet Corn (HAVAI) were tested. Variables comprised days for the onset of harvest, plant height, stem diameter, total and commercial number of ears, diameter, length and productivity of the commercial ears. Results show that Hybrid Popcorn Itapuã 900 and Super Sweet Corn were not recommended for the production of baby corn respectively due to non-desirable characteristics for the food industry and low productivity. Simple Hybrid Corn ATL 200, Bona-Verde Sweet Corn and While Corn Canjica were recommended for the production of baby corn in the region of Campo Mourão due to their characteristics acceptable by the food industry and productivity.
