Fish Production Chain in the State of Pará: a Study on the Distribution Segment in a Breeding Enterprise

Abstract

Fish production chain in the state of Pará, Brazil, is analyzed through the distribution strategy used by the enterprise. The study evaluates the distribution structure comprising fish processing for commercialization up to the middlemen that supply the local market. Current investigation questions to which level the double fish distribution structure contributes towards the enterprise´s maintenance and expansion of its attendance potential within the demands of the challenges presented by the fish market. Explicatory, documental and field methodology used two main tools: SWOT analysis and an economic analysis model. Results show that the enterprise is efficient in the two distribution chains, or rather, through processing for commercialization and through middlemen with advantages and disadvantages in both relationships. It is the enterprise´s duty to direct its efforts and resources and to benefit such relationships to improve its performance and broaden its competitive standards
