Brazilian and us soybean exports from the point of view of export market
Abstract
Soybean is in high evidence in the world market and has been an important part in the development of agribusiness in Brazil. The world’s leading soybean producers are Brazil and the United States, with China as the world’s largest soybean buyer. Current study analyzes the behavior of soybean exports from Brazil and the US between 2011 and 2017 by investigating official soybean export data from Brazil and the US, available by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the period 2011-2017. Data were analyzed in the light of the theme under study, and trend analysis and perceptual maps revealed the position of soybean-buyers in Brazil and the USA, taking into consideration linear trend and relative participation. Due to buying much of the soybean production from Brazil and the USA, China is a Class A buyer, whilst other countries are Class B countries. Results indicate that Iran, Russia and Thailand have an increasing trend in Brazilian soybean exports. The Netherlands is the main buyer of US soybeans, but has a growing trend in imports of Brazilian soybeans. The study also indicates that the fragility of logistics infrastructure and costs in Brazil affect its international competitiveness in the soybean market.References
