Abstract

Current analysis problematizes the importance of the radio as a social medium for the daily life of society and then discusses the genre ‘radio-document’. The subject matter and stages involved in the production of a radio-document were reported. It referred to the project ‘A Vision of Freedom’ developed since 2004 by the Center of Pedagogical Support for people with sight deficiency of the Secretary of Education of the state of Paraná (SEED/PR) as a joint venture with the State Prison in Maringá PR Brazil. Since the radio genre provides in-depth information, the project ‘A Vision of Freedom’ is described. Prison inmates produce material for people with visual deficiency who frequent government-run schools of the state of Paraná and of other Brazilian regions which are also aided by the project. It also deals with the outreaches and limitations of the project. Current research underlines the role that the radio still has as a medium for mass communication, the importance of radio-documents within the journalistic practice by providing visibility to the ‘A Vision of Freedom’ project. In fact, it is a tool for the (re)socialization and promotion of human dignity for people with sight deficiency and those who lost their freedom.
