Abstract
The Stomoxys calcitrans fly (Linnaeus, 1758), commonly known as “stable fly” is a haematophagus fly, which attacks various species, among cattles, goats, sheep, equines, dogs and even humans. Due to the high incidence of this fly in the municipality of Planalto, SP, some denunciations have been presented to CETESB and later to the Public Ministry to elucidate the vector spread sources and the causes. This study aimed to identify the high vector infestation causes and point initiatives to prevent and control of the stable fly. From this facts, surveys were promoted in the sugar cane plants and farms of this region that was affected by the stable fly. It was found in the cane fields the larvae vector presence over the vinasse amount. In two visited farms we noted the poor manure and food waste cattle management, which observed the incidence of larvae and flies. Based on the information, we concluded that the best way to prevent and control the stable fly is the interaction between different professionals involved in this process, like sugar and alcohol mill that was responsible for cane plantation and the farms owners in order to not provide favorable conditions for flies development. Since the inadequate vinasse management in the plant, as well as, poor management of organic matter for farmers favored the expansion Stomoxys calcitrans population.
