Brazil has a high sugarcane production, generating large volumes of waste that are frequently subjected to burning or improper disposal, resulting in greenhouse gas emissions. In this context, the energy recovery of these biomasses emerges as a sustainable alternative, with calorific value being one of the main parameters used to evaluate their energy potential. Thus, this study aimed to determine and compare the calorific value of 22 sugarcane genotypes. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design, with analyses performed in duplicate. The leaves were collected, crushed, dried at 65 °C until constant weight, and ground to 1 mm particle size. Moisture content (MC) was determined gravimetrically, and the higher heating value (HHV) was measured using an isoperibolic calorimeter (PARR 6200). The lower heating value (LHV) and net calorific value (NCV) were calculated considering 6% hydrogen content. Data were analyzed using the Scott–Knott test at a 5% significance level, in which genotypes were grouped according to their energy potential. The average results were 3939.16 kcal/kg (HHV), 3615.16 kcal/kg (LHV), 3203.23 kcal/kg (NCV), and 9.79% (MC), with variations among genotypes. In addition, a significant negative correlation was observed between MC and NCV (r = ?0.712; p < 0.01). It was concluded that the genotypes RB106807 and RB106818 exhibited the highest energy potential.
