This study investigates the role and potential of Unconventional Food Plants (UFPs) in the rural community of Nossa Senhora do Guadalupe, in Alta Floresta. By integrating traditional knowledge and scientific approaches, the research documents ancestral practices and evaluates the food, medicinal, and cosmetic uses of these plant species. A qualitative methodology was adopted, with semi-structured interviews and direct observations of practices involving 30 participants. A botanical inventory was then compiled, which was carried out with the species mentioned by the farmers. 170 species belonging to 64 botanical families were cited. The results indicate that 93.3% of these plants are used for food, 86.7% have medicinal uses, and 36.7% are applied in cosmetics. Knowledge transmission occurs mainly through family and community networks, while technical training expands access and sustainability of practices. Despite the potential, cultural, economic, and environmental barriers restrict large-scale adoption and commercialization. The findings reinforce the need for public policies and strategic initiatives to promote unconventional food plants (PANCs) as a path to food security, health, and biodiversity conservation. Integrating these plants into agri-food systems represents an effective response to contemporary sustainability challenges, strengthening local autonomy, food diversity, and the preservation of socio-environmental heritage.
