This article aims to analyze the discussions between two stakeholders: ÚNICA and INMETRO, on the process to certify ethanol in Brazil, highlighting its benefits and implications in the social, environmental and economic areas. To reach this goal, a literature and record search and interviews with ÚNICA and INMETRO were performed to verify the certification process of ethanol. The results indicate that the Brazilian companies producing ethanol already adopt certifications that cover environmental and social criteria in accordance with the customers’ requirements. However, the productive sector, along with the State and other organizations, has been searching for actions to create global standards for ethanol, which can facilitate the process of transforming the product into a commodity.Downloads
