Abstract

The employment of nitrogen-fixing diazotrophic bacteria in grass, especially the bacterium Azospirillum brasilense, is becoming highly relevant in agriculture as one of the sustainable alternatives in the decrease of nitrogen application. Information on the agronomic performance of Azospirillum brasilense in rice culture is investigated. Benefits related to the morphological aspects of the plant include Nitrogen accumulation in the plant and in the grain, increase in the root area and plant height, positive contribution related to green and dry mass and the number of panicules. Improvement in productivity and partial substitution of nitrogen may be verified. Benefits may be attributed to the accumulation of biomass in grains and to photosynthesis justified by the increase of leaf´s Nitrogen rate related to the symbiosis with A. brasilense in the root system area.
