Abstract

Machine-based sugar-cane harvest has been on the increase and its use requires strict control on equipments, especially, harvesting machines. Blades are replaced or inverted according to wear and tear, requiring specialized labor and loss of machine time. Current paper discusses three methods for blade exchange or inversion so that availability of the machine would be increased for better production through the Overall Equipment Effectiveness performance and Rapid Tool Replacement. Results showed that Rapid Tool Replacement increased the availability of the equipments for 347 minutes, with production increase of 115.9 tons/day. Time samples were collected and analyzed in three shifts with each tested system. Aspects related to the adaptation of tools used, effort and fatigue, logistics of spare parts and tools were assessed for the improvement of the machine operator.
