Changes in lifestyle have increased worldwide chronic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes. The disease is characterized by insulin resistance which results in hyperglycemia, increased production of free radicals, metabolic derangements and others. Teas are used all over the world for the treatment of these pathologies so that the impact of the symptoms may be reduced. Green tea, known for its anti-oxidant properties that help in the reduction of both body weight and hyperglycemia, may be an ally in the treatment of diabetes and improvement of its symptoms, with the subsequent improvement of the individuals’ life quality. Current investigation consists of a bibliographic survey on the properties of green tea and an analysis of its active components. In fact, these may be relevant for the treatment and improvement of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
