To compare the prevalence of single and multiple thyroid nodules and associate them with the presence of thyroid cancers. An observational and retrospective study, carried out in a reference center for pathology and in a private hospital in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The data collected related to the period from January 2011 to December 2021. Patients were divided into two groups: those with single and multiple thyroid nodules. The variables were age, sex, size, location and number of nodules, ultrasound findings, cytology faced by fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA) and histology of lesions. Regarding the characteristics of thyroid nodules, they exemplified greater irregularity and affected older individuals. In the calculation of the adjusted chance ratio, single and multiple nodules were compared, demonstrating a greater number of cases of single nodules with BETHESDA 4 classification. The present study did not observe differences between the association of single and multiple thyroid nodules with a higher incidence of malignant neoplasms.Downloads
