Abstract

Objective: to examine publications on Chagas disease in the State of Piauí, in order to provide a comprehensive and scientifically based view on this topic with the purpose of identifying the incidence and prevalence rates of the disease in the state. Method: this study was developed through a systematic review, which included original articles from primary studies in English, Spanish, e Portuguese and published in the last five years. Results: of the 12 articles analyzed, 6 studies were selected that met the eligibility criteria. Conclusion: Chagas Disease has high prevalence rates in the state of Piauí and there are few publications and epidemiological surveys that address the topic. There is a perceived need for more studies and dissemination of data to support the health system and the population in preventing and reducing the number of cases of the disease.

PhD student in Medicine from FIOCRUZ, Master in Women's Health from UFPI, Graduate in Medicine from UNINOVAFAPI, specialist in Family Health (UFPI), in Psychosocial Care (UFPI), in Health Management (FIOCRUZ) and in Electoral Law (UFPI) . He has a degree in Nursing from the State University of Piauí (2006) and a degree in Law from the State University of Piauí (2011). Electoral and tax lawyer. Author of the books Electoral Law in Debate; Judicialization of Health in Municipalities; and Practice Scenarios in Mental Health: Psychosocial Care in Piauí. Effective employee of the Municipal Health Foundation of Teresina since 2008 and Professor of Higher Education at UFPI since 2023.

Resident doctor at the Anesthesiology Service at the Getúlio Vargas University Hospital - HUGV, at the Federal University of Amazonas - UFAM, Family and Community Physician, certified by the Brazilian Society of Family and Community Medicine - SBMFC, Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Piauí - UFPI (2017), ICU doctor at the Tiberio Nunes Hospital from 2017 to 2019, emergency doctor at the Teresina Emergency Hospital from 2019 to 2022, ICU doctor at the Natan Portela Institute of Tropical Diseases from 2020 to 2022 and Family and Community doctor from 2017 to 2021 in the Municipalities of Arraial and São José do Peixe.

Sara da Silva Siqueira Fonseca , Federal University of Piaui

Master's degree in Women's Health from the Professional Master's Program in Women's Health (UFPI). She has a full degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of Piauí (2002) and a degree in Nursing from the State University of Piauí (2006). She is currently a Nurse and Teacher at the Piauí State Education Network. She has experience in the field of Nursing, with an emphasis on Public Health Nursing, and Education.

Jéssica Pereira dos Santos , Oswaldo Cruz Foundation

Graduated in Biological Sciences from the State University of Piauí UESPI (2015), specialization in Environmental Management from the Instituto Superior de Educação São Judas Tadeu (2015), master's degree (2016) and doctorate (2021) in Sciences in the area of ​​Diagnosis, Epidemiology and Control of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases by the Postgraduate Program in Tropical Medicine IOC/FIOCRUZ (2016). Currently, she is part of Fiocruz Piauí as a Collaborating Researcher, working on projects related to Entomological Surveillance, with an emphasis on Chagas disease and health promotion. She has experience in the areas of Parasitology; Neglected Tropical Diseases; Public health; Health education; Healthy and Sustainable Territories and Environmental Education.

Simone Patrícia Carneiro de Freitas , Oswaldo Cruz Foundation

He holds a degree in Science with a Specialization in Biology from the Regional University of Cariri, Crato, CE (1997) and a PhD in Entomology from the Federal University of Viçosa - UFV (2007). She worked as a Junior Visiting Researcher in the Medical and Forensic Entomology Sector, Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Fiocruz, RJ (2008-2011) and as a Post-doctor in the Parasitic Biomorphology Laboratory of the Gonçalo Moniz Research Center, Fiocruz, BA (2011-2013) and at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Entomological Surveillance in Diptera and Hemiptera, Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, FIOCRUZ, Rio de Janeiro (2013-2017). She was Substitute Professor of General Entomology and Forest Entomology at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) (2013-2014), and Substitute Professor of General Biology at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceará (IFCE) - Campus Iguatu ( 2020-2022). She is currently a Collaborating Researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Piauí Foundation, in Teresina. She has experience in the area of ​​Medical Entomology, with an emphasis on internal morphology and reproduction, working mainly on the following topics: internal morphology, morphometry, ultrastructure and cytochemistry of the male reproductive system of triatomines. In addition to research activities, she works on educational projects to prevent diseases carried by arthropods, prevention measures and the importance of entomological surveillance.

Jacenir Reis dos Santos Mallet , Oswaldo Cruz Foundation

He holds a degree in Biological Sciences from Fundação Técnico Educacional Souza Marques (1980), a master's degree in Morphological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1986) and a doctorate in Parasitic Biology from Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (2003). She is currently a Senior Researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Coordinator of the Fiocruz- Piauí Regional Office. She works as a teacher and advisor in the Postgraduate Program in Tropical Medicine, in the professional master's course in Vector Surveillance and Control and in the Specialization Course in Medical Entomology, at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute. She was Coordinator of the IOC Health Promotion Technical Chamber and the IOC + Schools program. Assistant professor at Universidade Iguaçu-UNIG. She works in the area of ​​Zoology, with an emphasis on studies on vectors, pathogens and epidemiological surveillance of infectious and parasitic diseases in association with health education actions.
