Abstract

Current analysis evaluates information on infants enrolled in the high-risk newborn children monitoring program in Maringá PR Brazil within the various information systems prepared in 2007. Analysis consists of a cross-section study based on the quantitative and analytical approach. Data sources such as SINASC, Newborn Risk Monitoring Chart (Orange Card), Form A and C of the Information System of Primary Care, and Medical Records of 23 Basic Health Units (UBS) were used. Further, 710 (17%) out of the 4175 children born in Maringa in 2007 were included in the monitoring program for high-risk newborn children. A random sample of 505 (71.12%) children was provided, featuring 254 (50.29%) characterized by low weight at birth; 244 (48.31%) premature children; 142 (28.11%) children born of teenage mothers (<18 years), 50 (9.90%) with score ≤ 7 and 21 (4.15%) classified as congenital anomaly. Most children have more than one risk criterion. Through Chart A and Chart C, 131 (25.9%) and 128 (25.3%) children were located; 359 (71.0%) were located by the Medical Records. The quality of information in health records is potentially required for adequate health care and for a better organization of health services. Consequently, the main basic principles of the Brazilian Health Organization, such as comprehensive, equal and universal access could be met with.
