Abstract

Since drinking water may contain microorganisms that cause diseases, monitoring of its microbiological quality is mandatory. Current research on the quality of drinking water in the Santa Fe community, municipality of Uberaba MG Brazil, is based on microbiological analyses and on how environmental education and primary health care may help in solving the social and environmental variables that impairs its quality. In fact, research was developed by undergraduate students in Occupational Therapy and Environmental Engineering and is a section of the Scientific Initiation project entitled "Social and environmental balance: Sustainable practices in the savannah of the western region of Minas Gerais, Brazil," with special reference to environmental education and primary health care in the community of Santa Fé. Health and environment should be investigated at interdisciplinary stances owing to the complexity of the factors involved.
