Abstract

Urbanization and globalization are the main causes for food-intake changes. Current analysis associates nutritional conditions to food intake in adolescents of a private school in Maringá PR Brazil. Nutritional conditions were evaluated by IMC/I, with results analyzed by WHO´s Score-Z table and classified according to scores adopted by Sisvan, with adaptations in the nomenclature. Food intake was evaluated by a food questionnaire developed by Castro et al. One hundred and thirty adolescents were evaluated. Most had adequate weight but 40% were above normal weight. In the case of food intake, most (64%) of the adolescents frequently ingested non healthy food. Subjects with adequate weight showed lowest frequency in healthy food intake (66.7%), whereas obese subjects had the lowest non-healthy food intake rates (38.9%). Omission, excess in food intake, endocrine causes may provide positive energy equilibrium. The relevance of eating reeducation and orientation should be underscored, revealing the importance of the nutritionist and the development of strategic activities in public health.
