Abstract

Treatment adhesion to diabetes mellitus is a highly relevant theme in public health and the dissemination of research work on the issue should be evaluated. The publication index is one of the manners to do so. Current paper describes the indexes (area, journals, authors, keywords, frequency of citations and year of publication) of 113 studies that empirically evaluated adhesion to the treatment of diabetes type 1 and made available by the Web of Science database between 2000 and 2012. Research ranged to all the areas on health reached by the database. Publications in the areas of Psychology and Medicine were predominant, especially in high impact journals, undertaken by prominent researchers, especially with a formation in Psychology. Foregrounded on the literature, suggestions were provided with regard to the choice of keywords in studies with no standardization. Within the context of the dissemination of scientific production, the indexes revealed that the articles were published for the scientific community. Further studies should be undertaken especially within the domain of Psychology and Medicine, as the most focused areas.
