Abstract

Brazil is one of the countries with high biodiversity and medicinal plants are included in this feature. Medicinal plants are often used by traditional populations and they are increasingly used in Brazil and worldwide. Several ethno-botanic studies recover and valorize the use of these plants. Current analysis evaluates the knowledge and use of medicinal plants among the students of the Instituto Federal Goiano in Urutaí GO Brazil. The investigation comprised 224 undergraduates of several courses. They answered a self-applied questionnaire with objective and discursive questions. Most participants (65.7%) have some knowledge on medicinal plants and 62.2% reported that knowledge was obtained from parents and relatives. Boldo (with 66 mentions) was the most frequent quoted plant by the undergraduates. Results show that students have certain knowledge on medicinal plants, most of which have been mentioned as cultivated in Brazil or introduced in the country and employed for respiratory or digestion problems.
