Abstract

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is characterized by the symptoms comprising lack of attention, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. The multimodal treatment includes drugs and psychosocial interventions. The Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the psychotherapies indicated for the pathology. Current analysis presents the case of a 7-year-old child, diagnosed with ADHD, attended to at the School of Clinical Psychology of an institution run by a university in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with a cognitive-behavioral approach. The analysis and discussion of results were based on psychotherapy sessions with the patient and its tutors. Results of the cognitive-behavioral intervention for ADHD were verified. CBT forwarded significant results in the treatment of the case, revealed changes in behavior such as an increase in organization and school performance, with a better social adaptability and relationship with the family.
