Guidelines to the Caretakers of Hemiplegia Patients in Acute Phase of Post-Episode Stroke (AVE)

Abstract

Hemiplegia is the classic sign of brain neurovascular disease and main interest for therapists. It is estimated that occur, worldwide, about 600,000 cases of stroke per year. In such cases, the sooner they begin the treatment better the prognosis, and one of the most important aspects for the rehabilitation of the patient are the guidelines provided for them and, mainly, to caregivers. The objective was to evaluate the influence of the guidelines through a questionnaire answered by patients or their caregivers. The results showed that the food, socialization, personal hygiene aspects and the need to carry out physiotherapy the caregivers and patients are well targeted, but the aspects of the room layout and correct positioning guidelines are few. It was concluded that the guidelines are for a fundamental importance for the patient recovery.
