Perception of people with diabetes on health education and adoption of healthy habits

This study aimed to know the perception of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients on the influence of health education for the adoption of healthy habits and disease control. The method used was a qualitative study based on Theory of Social Representation. The testimonies of 23 interviewees were analyzed using the Collective Subject Discourse technique. Four Central Ideas emerged from the testimonies on the guidelines of professionals regarding healthy habits that can contribute to disease control, and six that dealt with how educational actions can be more effective in stimulating the adoption of a healthier lifestyle. Based on the representations of the participants, this study brought the reflection that health education, as a resource to encourage the change of habits, only becomes effective when based on the reality of each individual, involving dialogue, qualified listening and training for the self-care.Downloads
