Abstract

The goal was to identify the association between self-evaluation of health level and the socio-demographic indicators among Physical Education students from State University of Santa Cruz (Bahia, Brazil). With this intent, a transversal study was carried out with all four year groups of students. The negative self-evaluation was investigated concerning the socio-demographic variables (gender, age, year group and income). Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests and chi-square for trend were utilized for a p value < 0.05. The negative self-evaluation of health was referred by 14.3% of the students, being most of them female (17.8%). In general, statistic association was only verified between self-evaluation of health and the year group (p=0.037). There were no associations between the investigated variables concerning gender. Although there were limitations in the present study, it was verified that women, individuals from higher socio-economic levels and individuals with higher level of knowledge about aspects related to health evaluated their level of health as negative.
