Digital Preservation and Self-Archiving Policy
Revista Saúde e Pesquisa uses the Brazilian Network of Digital Preservation Services (Cariniana) to create an archive system distributed among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent archives of the magazine for preservation and restoration.
Revista Saúde e Pesquisa informs that only after publishing the version of the article on the website are authors allowed to self-archive, in institutional, thematic repositories or personal web pages.
Information about the Cariniana Network
The Cariniana Network arose from the need to create at the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology – Ibict a network of digital preservation services for Brazilian electronic documents, with the aim of guaranteeing their continuous access in the long term. The Network implementation project was designed based on a decentralized infrastructure, using distributed computing resources. A distributed digital preservation network requires the participation of the institutions that hold these documents and their infrastructure, in a standardized and secure environment that guarantees permanent access and monitored storage of digital documents. With the support of FINEP, in January 2013 the Institute joined Stanford University's LOCKSS Program.
The Institute's participation in initiatives such as LOCKSS represents a significant contribution to scientific information in Brazil, which will therefore enable the preservation of the content of publications in international networks of institutions participating in the LOCKSS Initiative. Initially, the activities were developed in partnership with six Brazilian universities with the support of their respective information and IT centers. The Network initially structured the storage service for electronic journals from the project's partner institutions, which use the OJS platform.
The service was extended to institutions with open access publications, including around 1000 journal titles. The next stage aims to expand the Network's services, including the preservation of electronic publications in the DSpace software, such as books, theses and dissertations in electronic format. The activities are being oriented towards training human resources and facilitating the automation of identification, digitization, storage, validation and conversion processes to new digital formats. The development of a network of digital preservation services promotes the sharing of studies and research, in addition to the integration of digital institutional memory content in a consortium and federated manner.
