Abstract

The school must it very clear that their students reflect linguistic variations that represent their regional origin, their gender (male or female), their age (how old the students are), and social-economical aspects, and that these variations must be appreciated. This proposal, which has its origins inthe linguistics, shows greater respect to the students´social and regional diversity, and therefore, tries to find a way to really democratize teaching. Instead of a corrective attitude, the teacher must use the students´own language as an example to identify "the difference" and not "the error". There is no longer just "one way" of speaking Portuguese (closest to the standard), but that there must be respect for the different speaking variaties that has developed in each reegion of the country and in each social-economical group.
