Abstract

The high Brazilian capacity for the production of animal protein has been increasingly on the rise during the last decades to reach the upper levels of the broilers’ world production chain. In fact, it has provided a stimulus for national economy and employment with a promising future for this economical segment. One of the main requirements of international importers is the quality of the final consumable product, integrated to the poultry chain and commitment to nature. In fact, it is a challenge for animal protein and for all types of food chains. Current analysis is focused on this segment to know the profile of agro-industries and the application of the environmental management system. The study focuses on the knowledge and on the analysis of the decision on the true need of implanting an environmental management system to attend to the needs of clients and the legal abeyance with environmental legislation. Some of the negative factors were lack of knowledge of agro-industries on effluent treatment stations. Legislation on animal slaughtering is regulated by law, with a strict surveillance by municipal, state and federal government organs, with the application of fines and investigations of criminal responsibility on damage caused to the environment.
