Hydric and saline stress are the main abiotic factors that limit germination and the establishment of soybean culture. Studies that identify cultivars with a greater tolerance for hydric and saline stress are important in agricultural research. The tolerance of 25 soybean cultivars was evaluated for hydric and saline stress during the germination phase and early growth of seedlings. Hydric and saline stress were induced by exposing seeds during 10 days, at 25ºC, in solutions with osmotic potential -0.30 MPa prepared with polyethylenoglycol PEG-6000 (151.403 g L–1) and NaCl (3.536 g L–1). Stress tolerance indexes (ITE) were calculated from data on germination, length and dry matter of seedlings in non-stress (control) and stress (hydric and saline stress) conditions. Soybean cultivars RK 8317 IPRO, TMG 2383 IPRO, TMG 7061 IPRO, TMG 7063 IPRO and ST 777 IPRO had a greater tolerance to hydric stress and they are the most indicated cultivars in conditions of low water availability in the soil. Soybean cultivars NS 8399 IPRO, NS 7007 IPRO, NS 7505 IPRO, RK 8115 IPRO and TMG 2381 IPRO have a greater susceptibility to hydric stress and should not be recommended for culture in low hydric availability. Cultivars TMG 2383 IPRO, 98R31 IPRO, 98R35 IPRO, ST 777 IPRO, M5917 IPRO, ST 797 IPRO and TMG 7067 are the most indicated cultivars for saline soil due to greater tolerance to salinity. Further, cultivars NS 8399 IPRO, HO Paranaíba IPRO, HO Cristalino IPRO and BMX Foco IPRO have been classified as more susceptible to salinity.References
