Reception in School Clinic: Treating the Complaint

Abstract

This article aims at presenting a research and an intervention made with a view to develop a method of theoretical and clinical response to those who spontaneously get to Psychology School Clinic at Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Its origin dates back to the volume of requests for psychological care and the failure to respond to all applicants, creating a waiting list of unmanageable proportions. From the analysis of requests and their consequent differentiation, it was possible to establish a process of systematic research in psychoanalysis and concomitant clinical care in the regular internship stage of Psychology graduate students. This method has been developed based on psychoanalytic tools, since the applicant meets a physician who operates a psychoanalysis device, treating the complaint as it could be located as a symptom, or compromising the person who said to what was said. On this same movement, the network of meanings is unfolded, relocating the complaint from sign to its signifier condition. In a short-term care, besides explaining about the service provided at the clinic, the subjective rectification is done and, when necessary, cases are referred for psychological treatment. The findings from this type of approach show that half of the search for psychological care is fleeting, for they do not sustain even the first personal contact: the applicants did not attend the first meeting. The other searches comprise referrals to other services and effective psychological care. It was concluded that the reception shows up viable in this context because, besides immediate psychological care, it constitutes in concrete perspective of therapeutic psychological treatment.
