Abstract

Professional ethics lies within Brazilian health public policies in different manners. Brazilian public health policies have been constructed to respect ethical principles within the process of developed labor and in the professional relationships and strategies of promotion, protection, prevention and rehabilitation of the individual’s and the community’s health. Current analysis approaches professional ethics within the context of public health through the descriptive and exploratory study as a quantitative approach by non-systemic bibliographical reviews. Data were collected from databases of the online scientific electronic library (Scielo) through the descriptors: professional ethics in the health public service. Forty-one articles were found but only 18 attended to the criteria of inclusion. Three categories arose from the reading and analysis of the articles, or rather, professional ethics within the users’ context; professional ethics in the contexts of service-providing professionals; professional ethics in nursing. Professional ethics within the context of health public service is relevant to guarantee the users’ rights, safety and autonomy and also to guide the activities of professionals, with special attention to the nursing team that provides service.
