Abstract

The sedentary lifestyle of school adolescents is described and related to the level of physical activity and social and demographical profile of the same population. Sample includes students of the ninth year of the junior school (n=59). Students who reported they assisted to, at least, three hours of TV sessions were classified as exposed to sedentary behavior. Analyses were undertaken by chi-square test and Fisher´s exact test. Sedentary exposure frequency reached 67.8% in contrast to non-exposure at 32.2%. A relationship between infant school and exposure to sedentary behavior was associated, although the variables gender, school region, age and level of physical activity were not associated. Results show high frequency in exposure to sedentary behavior.
