Abstract

Current analysis evaluates in situ human teeth enamel affected by a cariogenic factor after the application of titanium tetrafluoride 4% during one minute. Ten deciduous teeth were sectioned in 6 fragments each, with a total of 60 pieces, from which 48 fragments were selected for the experimental group (EG: n=24) and control (CG: n=24). All fragments were placed on acrylic plates. Each intra-oral apparatus received 6 fragments for the palate region and placed three on each side, or rather 3 EG and 3 CG. The two groups were prepared by pumice stone and water prophylaxis for 10 seconds and TiF4 4% was applied to EG for 1 minute. Eight volunteers used the apparatus for 28 days and were counseled to apply a saccharose solution 15% three times a day and to use a non-fluor dentifrice throughout the period. At the end of the period, the fragments of each plate were removed and underwent a quality analysis by polarized light microscopy. Samples with TiF4 showed mitigated de-calcification patterns which suggested a higher protection for teeth enamel when compared to control. Results show that TiF4 4% decreases de-calcification pattern of teeth enamel with a cariogenic factor.
