Abstract

Muscle stretching may be employed to treat and prevent muscle-skeleton. Doubts exist as to the best manner it should be employed for best effect. There are several types of stretching to increase muscle extensibility, especially Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and Static Stretching (SS). The benefits of muscular stretching prior to exercises are controversial with regard to muscle performance. Current assay reports on the acute and chronic effects of SS and PNF on the sural triceps of healthy young people in the muscular potency and fatigue during jumping. The subjects were divided into three groups, or rather, Group 1 (G1, n=8) as control group; Group 2 (G2, n=8) received SS, and Group 3 (G3, n=8) was submitted to PNF techniques. Evaluations were conducted by consecutive jumps during 60 seconds on the Jump Test platform. Results showed that a significant decrease occurred in chronic MP, regardless of the group. SS and PNF did not demonstrate immediate or late significant effects with regard to average fatigue and potency index.
