Abstract

Aging may be defined as a consequent process of alterations in the organism in a variable and individual manner. Elderly groups are possible exchange and interaction spaces between people of the same generation. Elderly people have a possibility of forming new relationships and new ways of partaking knowledge with other people through companionship groups. Current exploratory, descriptive and quantitative-qualitative analysis identifies how elderly people who participate in a companionship group perceive sexuality. The demographic cross-section of the elderly analyzed is characterized by 60% (n=9) widows, 53.3% (n=8) have incomplete basic schooling, 80% (n=12) are practicing Catholics; moreover, 53.3% (n=8) report that sexuality is not openly discussed in the family; 40% (n=6) state that sex is very important; 13.3% (n=2) report having sex. Elderly females admit sex is important and relevant in their lives.
