Incidence of Nosocomial Pneumonia in a Intensive Care Unit in the City of Maringá-PR, Brazil

Abstract

Nosocomial pneumonia, also known as hospital pneumonia, is defined as all infection in the lower lungs that occurs during de hospital admission, it varies in its clinical manifestations and is one of the most aggravating of the hospitalar situation that can take the patient to death, In this way, this research has the objective of verifying the incidence of nosocomial pneumonia in a private hospital in the city of Maringá-Pr, from July 2005 to July 2006, in patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unity and subjected to the physiotherapeutic treatment. It was done a survey from the hospital handbooks and the data were collected in an elaborated list. After statistic analysis the results showed that the most part of the patients were from male gender, white race, and age between 61 and 70 years old, the sector that had more incidences was pneumology where 31 % were taken to death.
