Abstract

The name is one of the factors that make up the personality of the subject. It is an intrinsic factor which transforms the subject into an individual within the family and society. The right to a name allows the person to exist. Currently thousands of people have an incomplete civil registration. The birth certificate provides the name belonging to each one and that of the parents. A gap exists in the person´s history when the name of the father is omitted. The Brazilian Council for Justice established a program to stimulate the acknowledgement of paternity and thus make possible the right to fill this important space in one´s life. Current analysis studies the rights of the personality with special emphasis to the right to a name and underscores the consequences that its lack causes in the child´s development.
