Abstract

Dispensing pharmacies are an alternative for patients that need specific treatments and individualized doses. Hydroquinone is prescribed by dermatologists although it oxidizes fast. Current research deals with quality control in creams with hydroquinone dispensed in ten pharmacies in Maringá PR Brazil. A sample was provided from each pharmacy. All samples had anti-oxidants and half of the samples were conditioned in aluminum tubes. This was recommended; recommendation also deals with their maintenance in a fridge. Only one (10%) had the recommended dosage whereas in eight samples (80%) the dose was above the permitted rate and one (10%) was below. Results show that dispensing pharmacies have enough care to avoid oxidization but evaluation of doses is not without concern and may decrease the efficiency or cause toxicity in the patient.
